Its development began in 2017, after the end of the production of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.[1] During the Nintendo Direct at E3 2019, it was officially confirmed that said video game would have a sequel. [2] The idea to produce it came from the fact that Eiji Aonuma, producer of the same, wanted to revisit the region of Hyrule but incorporating a new story and gameplay mechanics.[3] Initially, new ideas for a DLC were thought of, but eventually ended up in a new video game when too many were compiled.[4]
