La hora violeta is a love story: that of a father for his son. This novel has been awarded the Tigre Juan Prize and the Ojo Cr@tico de Narrativa Prize, among others. One of the phrases that a father hears the most after the death of his son is “I have no words”. Everyone runs out of words of consolation at a time when commonplaces sound like an insult. But Sergio del Molino had no words. In fact, he only had words, the words that make up this love story entitled La hora violeta (The Violet Hour). This book narrates a year in the life of his son Pablo, from the time he was diagnosed with a rare and serious type of leukemia until his death. The Violet Hour is not only a passionate love letter from a father to his son, but also the story of a quest: the search for a term to refer to “orphaned parents”. There are so few words of consolation available that the language has even forgotten to reserve a noun for those who see their children die. Del Molino expresses without half-measures the frustration and anguish of a parent without indulging in sensationalist descriptions of his child’s suffering. The result is a moving memoir that transcends the death of the child to whom it is dedicated. Reviews

The country television

Yes, but in general people who live on the margins don’t want to be counted. If they have been pushed aside, they still want to be left alone. I often wonder who tells the lives of others and who has the right to give a voice to others. I am very suspicious of people who take on spokespersonships. Who has asked them for permission? Maybe they have a voice and do not want to raise it. There is a lot of paternalism and a lot of moral superiority in that aspect. It worries me a lot as a writer and as a journalist, and that’s partly why I wrote this essay, because I wanted to explore how we have silenced and silenced certain people.
Not at all. I just don’t think it hasn’t taken hold, and that’s logical, because there’s such a vacuum that we don’t really know what to do. At best we are talking about a subsistence economy because there is no market.
We no longer have a historical or mythical connection, nobody believes in El Cid or in the conquest of America; nobody at school would swallow Menéndez Pidal’s story, it has become obsolete. But it occurs to me that we could take advantage of that diffuse and collective conscience we have, nothing to do with the story of “them” and “us” or a covert bellicosity, but linked to the sentimental connection we have with the country. After all, affections are the axis of our identity.

In the fashion of forming governments by watching TV, I am not so much surprised by the frivolity of signing the presenters with the highest ratings for important positions, but rather that these figures accept the invitations.
For a few hours it was demonstrated that the rite of the grapes is what really amalgamates and gives sense to so much plurality, parliamentary group, so much negotiation table, so much tertulian shouting and so much nationality.
From its religious origins, art had only liturgy left: if a spectator behaves well in a museum or in a theater, it is not because he cares about the works he sees, but because he fears being excommunicated.
